If you contact us with a complaint, we recommend that you provide the information by telephone, fax, or mail since there is a risk for e-mails to be intercepted. The information you provide us is subject to The Ombudsman and Children’s Advocate Act . Section 10 (Secrecy) states:
(1) The Ombudsman and every member of his staff shall maintain secrecy in respect of all matters that come to his knowledge in the exercise of his powers and the carrying out of his duties and functions under this Act.
(2) Notwithstanding subsection (1) or any oath taken under this Act, the Ombudsman may disclose in a report made by him under this Act any matter that he considers necessary to disclose in order to establish grounds for his conclusions and recommendations.
Under the Act, we also have the authority to collect information related to your complaint.
Information that you submit using the online complaint form is secure. We use Secure Socket Layer (SSL) technology to protect the information and we do not exchange personal information by e-mail. When we receive your online complaint, we will try to contact you by telephone, and if we do not succeed, we will try to contact you by mail.
