2019-05-27

News Release

On June 4-5, 2019, staff from Ombudsman Saskatchewan will be in three northern communities to take complaints in person. Ombudsman Mary McFadyen said, “If you think a provincial, municipal or health service has been unfair to you and you have not been able to resolve the problem, our Office may be able to help.”

While the Office is always available by phone, McFadyen says it’s good to meet people and take their complaints in person. Members of her staff will be available at the following times and locations:

La Loche
Friendship Centre: 9:30 a.m. – 2:30 p.m., June 4

Buffalo Narrows
Lakeview Complex: 9:00a.m. – 11:00 a.m., June 5

Île-à-la-Crosse
Sakitawak Entertainment Centre: 1:00 – 3:00, June 5

To book an appointment time call 1-800-667-9787. Walk-ins are also welcome and will be fit into the schedule where possible.
The Ombudsman’s Office takes complaints about the administrative decisions and actions of many government organizations. Some examples are SaskPower, SaskEnergy, SGI, Social Services, Sask Housing, and the Saskatchewan Health Authority. The Office can also take complaints about Saskatchewan’s municipalities and municipal council members.

The Ombudsman operates under The Ombudsman Act, 2012 and is an officer of the Legislative Assembly. Her Office promotes and protects fairness and integrity in the design and delivery of government services. When possible, the Ombudsman’s staff try to resolve complaints using non-adversarial approaches such as facilitated communications, negotiation, mediation, conciliation and coaching. If that is not successful, and if appropriate, the Office will conduct an investigation into the complaint. Depending on the findings of an investigation, the Ombudsman may make recommendations that government take corrective action to address and resolve the complaint.
